Departments and ranks
Moving up
Time alone doesn't promote anyone. Each step asks for something you can point at.
What each step asks for
| Step | Gate | What it asks for |
|---|---|---|
| G0 to G1 | Knowledge | A short procedure check and one supervised shift. At least 7 days. |
| G1 to G2 | Skill | A specialist qualification in a practical test. At least 21 days. |
| G2 to G3 | A seat | Appointed by the director into an open seat. At least 30 days. |
| G3 to G4 | A seat | Appointed into an open seat. |
| G5 | One | The director. |
Seats
From G3 up, a rank is a seat. A department has one G3 seat for every five of its posted members, with a minimum of one, and one G4 seat until it passes twenty. You are promoted into a seat when one is open. That keeps most people at G1 and G2, and it means a supervisor is someone the department actually needs.
When a seat comes free, it is announced in the server, and you can ask to be pinged for it with the Vacancies role.
How a promotion is decided
- Three things, every time: time in grade, something countable you actually did, and someone above you putting their name on it.
- In public. There is a promotion board every Sunday, in a channel, with the numbers attached and the outcome posted.
- Signed. The higher grades need two signatures, and every promotion is logged with who signed it.
- Rank is not for sale, trade or favour. Not for Robux, not for art, not for a friend.
- Rank is not the only reward. Most recognition is a duty role, a commendation on your service record, or a named job.
If you go quiet
Going quiet is not a punishment. Thirty days without activity moves you down one grade and onto the Reserve list. Sixty days returns you to G1. Come back and say so, and you are restored at your old grade with no board and no fuss.
If you are demoted
A demotion always comes with a written reason, and you always see it. You get one appeal per action, to the Arbiter, who was not involved, answered within seven days.
