Departments and ranks
Ranks
Six steps, the same six in every department, so a Foreman and a Sergeant are the same level and nobody argues about who is in charge.
Every member holds two things: what they do, which is their department, and how far they have got, which is their grade. The grade carries the authority. G3 means "runs a shift and the people on it" everywhere.
Three layers, one rank
1 · The grade
G0 to G5
The contract. The same six steps in every department, and the thing that carries the authority.
2 · The band
Initiate, Operator, Custodian, Director
What Discord and Roblox show next to your name. G1 and G2 share a band, and so do G3 and G4.
3 · The title
Foreman, Sergeant, Clerk
Your department's flavour. A Foreman and a Sergeant are both G3, both Custodians, and equals.
What each grade means
| Grade | Band | What it means | Roughly | Time in grade |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| G0 | Initiate | Trial. Supervised. | Your first week | At least 7 days |
| G1 | Operator | Member. Does the work, unsupervised, on a task someone else set. | The backbone | At least 21 days |
| G2 | Operator | Specialist. Trusted with the difficult version of the work. Trains new people. | About a month in | At least 30 days |
| G3 | Custodian | Supervisor. Runs a shift and the people on it. The first rank with authority over people. | A seat | |
| G4 | Custodian | Deputy. Runs the branch when the director is not there. | A seat | |
| G5 | Director | Director. Owns the branch, its handbook, its roster and its numbers. | One per branch |

| Works Hand | Place approved modules from the catalogue. |
| Technician | Place restricted modules: power, comms, lighting. |
| Foreman | Runs the works shift. Decides the order of the build. |
| Works Director | Owns the module catalogue, the build order and the spend side of the budget. |
Logistics
| Title | What it lets you do |
|---|---|
| Probationer | Ride along. Load, do not drive. |
| Loader | Work the skip, unload the boat, stock the commissary. |
| Storeman | Drive the truck. Hold stores keys. Run an inventory count. |
| Quartermaster | Runs the supply shift and sets the commissary price list. |
Administrative Branch
| Title | What it lets you do |

| Probationer | Shadow an intake. |
| Clerk | Process intake, take muster, file reports, run the ledger entries. |
| Senior Clerk | Audit a promotion. Draft documents for the archive. Train probationers. |
| Records Supervisor | Run the office for a shift. Approve a personnel file. |
| Registrar | Owns records, applications and the archive. |
Mobile Vanguard Force
| Title | What it lets you do |
|---|---|
| Selection | On the selection op. Not yet Vanguard. |
| Vanguard | Kit, patrol, respond as part of a team. |
| Operator | A specialist slot: breacher, coxswain, marksman or medic. |
| Section Leader | Leads a four person section. Takes the field on contact. |
| Vanguard Commander | Owns response doctrine, selection and the cap on the branch. |
Specialist slots
At G2 you qualify for a specialist slot in a practical test. Security has three and the Vanguard four; Facilities and Administrative are still choosing theirs.
| Department | Specialist slots |
|---|---|
| Security Division | Gate Officer, Escort Lead, Searcher |
| Mobile Vanguard Force | Breacher, Coxswain, Marksman, Medic |
Command
Above the ladder are three Command seats: Overseer (C1), Continuum Director (C2) and Observer (C3). They are appointments, not promotions, and no promotion reaches them.
Beside the ladder
| Name | What it is |
|---|---|
| Contingent Asset | Everyone, from the moment they accept the rules. Kept for good, by everyone, including the Chief of Security. |
| Founder | Everyone who joined before the doors. Never granted again. |
| Site Architect | Layout and interiors authority. Held by name. |
| Arbiter | Hears appeals and complaints, and was not part of the decision being appealed. |
| External Asset | Visitors and representatives from allied groups. |
Clearance
Clearance is not a ladder and there is no application for it. It follows your grade.
| Level | Opens | Who has it |
|---|---|---|
| CL-1 | The camp, the pier, the Cut, Floor 1 | Everyone, from day one |
| CL-2 | The adit works, restricted stores, the tower desk | G3 and above. Security and Vanguard reach it earlier, because the far side of the Wire is where they work. |
| CL-3 | Whatever Floor 2 turns out to be | Appointed. Not rankable into. |
| CL-4 | Everything | Two people |
